With Christmas only a few days away a lot of small business owners will be finding it hard to switch off for a couple of days and take the time to relax and enjoy the company of family and friends. I can relate to this but discovered for myself that if we walk away from our laptops, our smartphones, and our office the world will not end! Obviously you have to tie up any lose ends that have to be taken care of before you take a few days holiday but, once you have done that, walk away with a positive attitude knowing you will be back to work in a few days.
Here are a few fun things you can do during the holiday season that will help you relax and you will feel rested and ready to go once you return to work:
Remember that Christmas is not about spending lots of money and making sure you give the best gifts. This is a time to realise you are blessed to have a roof over your head, food on the table and family and friends with you. Smiles and hugs can fill Christmas stockings to the brim and will last a lifetime and offer you a wealth of happy memories.
You can switch off during the holiday season and you will enjoy it as much as I do, Happy Holidays and a Happy New Year to you all.
Absolutely, I've always been a firm believer in taking a day for yourself. Granted with family obligations, fatherhood, etc. its harder as each year passes - but taking time for oneself is keen to maintaining sanity.
From a work perspective, its important to establish boundaries with colleagues and managers from the beginning. If you don't set these boundaries and expectations of your availabilities early on, it becomes an expectation that you are always available to work on anything anytime day or night, even when you're on vacation.
Hi Matheepan,
Thanks for commenting on my discussion, re finding it easy to switch off during the holiday season. Your comments will definitely help others know that if you can do it they can too.
Please take a look at my recent blog posts, as comments are always welcome, and they help me understand if my perspective helps other small business owners. If you have any tips to add to my posts they are always useful too. Thanks:)
